Kaikoura Mountains and Wildlife
The 2600 metre high Kaikoura mountains appear to rise straight out of the sea. Kaikoura translates as “eat crayfish” in Maori language. Shearwater hover near the shore with pied stilts and oyster catchers with fur seals on the rocks.
